Inspired by Jean Genet’s obsessions with power, sex, and revolution—and drawing heavily from his landmark 1957 play The Balcony—the production transforms The Doxsee into a space that is equal parts theater, brothel, and business. As an eclectic ensemble of burlesque performers and downtown theater veterans enact fantasies of American power, an insurrection rages just outside their doors.
