My ticket to “The Animals Speak” came with streaming access to the proshots of the first two parts of a spiritual trilogy about Walt Disney Studios between 1937 and 1941. I am pretty much down to watch anything, I guess!
This was a decent little hour about the uncredited women who painted (from the credited male animators’ drawings) each frame of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937, examining some interesting ideas about the relative value of intent and execution in art, as well as the wearying impacts of getting too attached to it and commercializing it, all through the lens of historical gender dynamics.
It was a nice piece, but I think I would have liked it better on stage. The recorded version adds some distracting effects.
