What I'm seeing lately!

Summary

A modern, “grunge-steeped” adaptation of Chekhov’s masterpiece about an aristocratic Russian family facing the loss of their estate. It explores themes of change, denial, and the decline of an old world.

What I love about theater is I’ve been seeing so much stuff and I just keep running into shows that remind me that I know absolutely jack about this art form. This was so good and I can’t believe I almost skipped it to spend time with a boy who is completely indifferent to whether I live or die

The atmosphere. The freeform movement. The sound design. The surprising way they change the scene. The party sequence. The audience interactivity. The heartbreak. It all hits in such an evocative way, and it doesn’t take a glitzy production to do it. I walked in grouchy and they transported me to a different time and place which is just about the highest compliment I can pay them

(It would be nice to have the program at the beginning to have a reference for the characters’ names)
