They flit between playing type and off-type and it’s a delight both ways. Bernadette’s voice is pretty cooked and seeing her made me cry about three times anyway. She’s 77. She’s 77. She’s 77. How does she still look like that?

Lea Salonga is one of the most talented human beings I’ve ever encountered in person, down to the details - the ways her eyes and hands move are totally captivating. The show is wise to rely on her as its backbone. (Her Mrs. Lovett is flawless, but her Mama Rose? Ooh, we’ve been robbed of something here.)

I have a lot of other scattered thoughts. Making this even 1% about Cameron Mackintosh (and his giant Deviser credit) is truly embarrassing. Six songs from Follies against one from Sunday is not the ratio I would have chosen. (Not even “Finishing the Hat”? Come on, y’all.) Bonnie doing “I’m Still Here” rules. Jacob and Jasmine should lead something soon. Idk. If you think you might enjoy this kind of thing you should probably see it
