Talented company, fun in some ways, just don’t really think it’s much of a musical. The book is a bunch of vague inspirational speeches set in 1992 to avoid showing how things go off the rails in 1993 and beyond
This is such a deep catalog with potential to really surprise you, and a lot of highs and lows you could mine for a really rich story — it feels like a waste when half the show consists of “and then Michael performed X, and it sounded just like the record”
(On the technical side, there also seemed to be some kind of timing issue in the sound mix for the first few songs - several singers sounded like they were half a beat behind - they did fix it but it wrecked “Beat It” which made a really sour first impression)
