Trevor Copeland and Arthur Brightman, two men whose romance is strictly against the law in New York City in 1965, create a secret nightclub act called “Midnight,” performing love songs in an act of defiance against a world that demands they stay hidden.

A pleasure - Ben and his vibrato are so charming in this. It’s nice to see a piece of queer historical fiction that doesn’t devolve into trauma. While Midnight at the Never Get doesn’t ignore the adversity facing performers in gay nightclubs in the 1960s, it ultimately trades more in themes of heartbreak, the passage of time, the rose-tinted color of memory, and the messiness of intermingling personal and professional lives. He’ll get some Olivier consideration.
