Sarah on theater

What I'm seeing lately!

★★★★

You know I’m a sucker for the niche stuff. I just find the premise and obscurity of this show and the moxie involved in mounting a production of it so appealing that it basically didn’t matter whether it was any good or not—I was predestined to have a great time.

That being said, I actually think there’s a fair bit to like here. This was my second J2 Spotlight show, and I would note that while the staging was distinctly less elaborate than Zorba (I would describe this one as closer to a concert production), I preferred the material here. It would certainly need to be punched up to succeed in a bigger theater in 2025 but the score and humor and characters mostly all worked for me.
