It’s a pretty vivid depiction of unhealthy female friendship in your 20s, and it seems to have found the right audience for that - I was clearly not the only one in the theater who found parts of it more than a little relatable.
The cast is great and the set is pretty perfect. Julia Lester is particularly hilarious and such a scene stealer.
I did find that it ambled a little bit in search of a plot and I was surprised by the one it landed on, which sort of tidily picks one of the girls to frame as a villain. I’m honestly not sure how I would have otherwise wrapped it up, though; the strength here is the realism of the group dynamic and I think it would be hard to apply any particular story structure and not have it feel a little — railroaded? I dunno. Does something have to happen in a play or can we just hang out with friends all night?
